Billy's Opening Day Choices
Below would be my choices for Keeneland's Opening day races. Because I'm a procrastinator I thought I'd better do this now (and will try for each day in advance) because there is no way in hell I'll be trying do this the night before or day of. Won't happen.
For those of you out there that think it's odd to be so excited about going to the races. Take note that the only reason I moved 1600 miles from home was to work within the Thoroughbred Industry (as did many of you I know). I no longer wanted to be sidelined or be a hanger-on or just a fan. I do not get to see live racing EVER anymore because of my schedule with the business I've got going (all Thoroughbred related). If you factor in work, personal life, and other hobbies (dogs) then going to other places to catch a race is not necessarily feasible. So having racing come to me with top quality horses - is like a treat.
I shall enjoy that treat as much as possible. Below will just be names for now - until Program numbers get added - then I'll update.
(typically my rule of thumb is to not bet Maidens - horses that have not previously won, or races with 6 or less entrants)
Keeneland

3. Evil Genius (interesting)
1a. Foot the Bill
Race 3 (claiming)

Race 5 (turf allowance)
5. Vacation (intriguing)
10. Grand Stage

Orthodox has not done well of late, Omniscient (spelling?) has been- Jess Jackson/Asmussen, may run in Lexington. If I remember, Vacation is a Dynaformer 4 year old out of a very successful mare - Country Hideaway maybe?. It took awhile for Vacation to win, if I remember correctly, but finally did. I love it when Dynaformers do well. The pedigree purists for stamina and durability I know (PETAlights) love him. Wonder what will happen with his speedier daughter Rainbow View in England?
I hope to visit the actual races again soon, especially Churchill Downs before they replace the dirt tracks (?) and you cannot hear the thunder of the hooves.
